It's Miller time as Martlet ruggers run roughshod in Sherbrooke

SHERBROOKE - Fly-half Brianna Miller of Pte. Claire, Que., scored 26 points and Krista Dunn of New Glascow, N.S., had three tries as the visiting McGill Martlets skunked Sherbrooke 71-0 in their Quebec university women's rugby opener, Saturday.

Miller, a 5-foot-5 physical education sophomore, tallied a pair of tries to go with eight conversions, the second-highest single-game performance in Quebec university history. The conference record for most conversions is 13, set by Sandra Simpson in a 113-0 shellacking of Sherbrooke on Sept. 25, 2005.

Senior Mandy Mongeon of Ile-Bizard, Que., and Emily Barber, an 18-year-old freshman from Fenelon Falls, Ont., each added a pair of tries for the Martlets, who led 48-0 at halftime. Rounding out the scoring with one try apiece was junior Chloe Duncan of Ormstown, Que., and sophomore Casey Thornburn of St. John's, Nfld.

Sherbrooke (0-1) plays at Laval on Sept. 17, while McGill (1-0) returns to action on Sept. 18 when they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
