INDOOR SOCCER: Kolker dillies, Dhaliwal dallies, Martlets tally
By Earl Zukerman
SAINT EUSTACHE, Que. -- Magalie Kolker of West Vancouver, B.C., and
Kyrin Dhaliwal of Burnaby, B.C., scored first-half goals as McGill
Martlets won their second consecutive game with a 2-0 whitewash
over UQAM in women's university indoor soccer, Saturday.
Twenty minutes into the contest, Kolker converted on a pretty play
by Cristina Di Caprio who deked UQAM ’keeper Vicky Duplesis and
lofted a cross to Kolker for an easy tap-in on the open side.
Dhaliwal doubled the score in the 40th minute after converting a
nice pass from Kolker at the edge of the box.
Di Caprio, who was named as McGill’s player of the game, had a
solid performance upfront, using her speed to constantly challenge
the UQAM defenders for most the game.
The Martlets dominated the game from start to finish, displaying
nice offensive sequences combined with very physical play all over
the pitch. Simmons and Salasky controlled the midfield, while Green
and Pelletier put in solid efforts on the back line.
Slomowitz earned her second consecutive shutout.
The Martlets evened their record at 2-2-1 in the indoor league and
will play next in Sherbrooke against Bishop’s on Feb. 20.
"It was a very good team effort," said head coach Marc Mounicot.
"There was a clear improvement in our overall performance. Our goal
is to get into playoffs with some positive momentum and a strong
performance in our final two games (at Bishop’s and versus
Concordia) should give us the confidence needed to go far in the
playoffs."
