Hockey Martlets force-feed Huskies a huge goose-egg

MONTREAL - Six different players scored and goaltender Charline Labonte registered her 56th career shutout as No.1-ranked McGill blanked the visiting Saint Mary's Huskies 6-0 in women's non-conference hockey action at McConnell Arena, Saturday.

Freshman scoring sensation Katia Clement-Heydra scored once and added a pair of helpers to pace the Martlets. Senior Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-Iles, Que., added three assists.

Labonte, a physical education senior from Boisbriand, Que., Ìýkicked aside 16 shots to register the goose-egg and improve her overall career record in a McGill jersey to 110-9-3 in 122 contests.

After a scoreless opening period, the Martlets exploded for four in less than eight minutes during the middle stanza and added a pair in the final period. McGill dominated the shot clock, with a 58-16 advantage, including a lopsided 28-4 margin in the second period.

Jordanna Peroff of Keswick, Ont., was credited with the game-winner at 11:34 of the second. Rounding out the scoring for McGill was Carly Hill, a senior from Dorval, Que., defenceman Cathy Chartrand of Lac Nominingue, Que., sophomore Kim Ton-That of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que., and Darragh Hamilton, a sophomore from Ormstown, Que.

Jillian MacIsaac, the besieged Huskies goalie from Timberlea, N.S., registered 52 saves in a losing cause.

McGill, which improved to 9-0 against CIS opponents and 6-0 in QUHL action, resumes regular season action on Sunday afternoon against the Gee-Gees (3-4) in Ottawa.
