MONTREAL -- M茅lodie Daoust, a 19-year-old hockey player from the Canadian national developmental program, has signed a letter of intent to play for the 香蕉视频 Martlets next fall.

听

The 5-foot-6 forward from Valleyfield, Que., has turned down offers from numerous Canadian and American universities, including Cornell, Dartmouth and a full-ride scholarship from Boston University.

听

"I wanted a school with a good physical education program and a strong hockey team and McGill has the combination that I liked the most," said Daoust. "I have visited the campus and met all the players a few times. I was impressed by their team chemistry and how hard they pushed themselves at practice. That was important to me."

听

A Montreal Canadiens scholarship holder in 2010 from the Quebec Foundation for听 Athletic Excellence, Daoust guided the Coll猫ge 脡douard-Montpetit Lynx to a Quebec collegiate AA championship last season. She won the league scoring title last year with a 24-31-55 record in only 13 contests. This season, she currently has 14 goals and 28 points in 13 games with the Lynx.

"M茅lodie is a great student-athlete and one of the top recruits in the country," said Peter Smith, head coach of the No.1-ranked McGill program that currently has a 25-5-2 record overall, including a 22-0 mark against Canadian university opponents. "I'm really pleased that she has chosen McGill. We've been scouting and recruiting her for three years and she came here for the right reasons. She wants a great education, to perfect her English and to develop her hockey skills to see where that takes her."

In听 three stints with the Canadian under-18 squad, Daoust tallied 10 goals and 23 points in 13 games. She helped the team win gold at the IIHF world U-18 championships in Chicago last April, scoring once and adding an assist in the gold medal game, a 5-3 victory over the Americans, who had beaten Canada in each of the previous two years. Daoust then rushed back to Montreal to help the Lynx capture the听collegiate championship the next day. She scored twice and added an assist in the championship game, including the game-winner in a 6-5 conquest over Coll猫ge Lafl猫che, capping a fine season that saw the Lynx register a 44-3 record overall.

In 2008-09, she played with the Lac St. Louis Selects, helping them rack up a stellar 62-0-2 record.

听

Daoust, who has served as a team captain or alternate at every level she has played, was recently called up as an emergency fill-in with the Montreal Stars, the top team in the Canadian Women's Hockey League, and scored three points in her CWHL debut on Jan. 14.
