CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Kathryn Farni scored a goal and assisted on three other tallies, while Kate Buesser notched two goals of her own to guide the No. 9 Harvard women's hockey team to a 4-1 win against McGill, the top-ranked Canadian team, in an exhibition Saturday afternoon at Bright Hockey Center.

Ìý

Christina Kessler made the start in net for the Crimson, making 22 saves.

Ìý

Farni opened the scoring for the Crimson with a shorthanded goal at 4:55 of the first period. Farni backhanded a shot on a breakaway that snuck under Taylor Salisbury's left pad and into the back of the net. Later in the opening frame, Buesser added a goal for Harvard at 12:30, as Farni and Jillian Dempsey earned assists on the play. In the second period, Buesser and Farni once again teamed up for a Harvard goal, as Buesser buried a shot at 6:21.

Ìý

After McGill got on the scoreboard with a goal by Vanessa Davidson with 6:36 remaining in the second, Harvard capitalized on a power-play chance in the closing seconds of the period. With the Crimson setting up in the McGill zone, Hilary Hayssen and Farni passed the puck before finding Katharine Chute open in front for Harvard's fourth goal of the contest at 19:59.

Ìý

Harvard finished the game 1-for-5 on the power play, while posting a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill. The Crimson also led in shots, 33-23, including a 16-6 margin in the second half. Harvard opens the regular season with a trip to Colgate and Cornell Oct. 30-31. Harvard will face the Raiders Friday at 3:30 p.m.

McGill concludes its three-game roadtrip at Yale on Sunday at 2 p.m.
