Globe and Mail, USA Today, et al. - Michael Douglas fundraising for Jewish General

Published: 18 April 2011

Actor Michael Douglas has volunteered to serve as the star attraction at a coming fundraiser for the Jewish General Hospital - where, according to his publicist, his recent case of throat cancer was diagnosed after other physicians had missed it.

Douglas has stepped forward to assist with this year's McGill University event, the 17th Annual Head & Neck Cancer Fundraiser. It is scheduled May 3 at Le Windsor, on Peel St. in downtown Montreal, according to the calendar of coming events at the Jewish.

"It was his very gracious offer to help us in view of his own battle with throat cancer," Dr. Saul Frenkiel was quoted Monday night by The Canadian Press news agency.

Douglas and his wife Catherine Zeta Jones will be auctioning themselves off as part of a fundraiser on May 3 for McGill University's head and neck cancer fund. Bidders can vie for a chance to play golf with the Hollywood couple.
