Geneviève Saumier named as co-rapporteur of a Special Commission of the Hague Conference on Private International Law
In June 2016, the Hague Conference on Private International Law convened a Special Commission to prepare a draft Convention on the recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters.
The Hague Conference appointed Professor Geneviève Saumier as a Co-Rapporteur of this Special Commission. She is one of two people charged in preparing the Explanatory Report that will accompany the finalized Convention, and she will be present during Convention negotiation rounds.
“Geneviève Saumier is a recognized expert in private international law,” indicated Dean Robert Leckey. “This nomination further affirms how valued her scholarship is on the international scene.”
Founded in 1893, the Hague Conference on Private International Law is a global inter-governmental organisation, with 81 members across all continents. Building bridges between different legal traditions, it develops multilateral legal instruments to respond to global needs. Between 1951 and 2008, the Conference adopted 38 international Conventions, the practical operation of many of which is regularly reviewed by Special Commissions.
The draft Convention will be further discussed at a second meeting of the Special Commission, which is expected to take place in February 2017.
Bravo, Geneviève!
