El Zanaty, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound guard on the men’s basketball team, exploded for 97 points, 21 rebounds 11 assists, two blocked shots and a pair of steals over three road games in Nova Scotia last week. He was named twice as McGill’s player of the game, in a 93-90 win over Saint Mary’s and a 93-75 loss to Dalhousie, where his 44-point performance was the highest single-game offensive output by a McGill player in 33 years.

Including Sunday’s 90-75 victory over Acadia, the 25-year-old finance & treasury senior, combined to shoot 40.1 per cent from the field (29/71) over the three contests, plus an impressive 43.3 per cent from three-point range (13/30) and a stellar 83.9 per cent from the foul line (26/31). Thomson, a 5-foot-7 All-Canadian power-hitter on the women’s volleyball squad, helped McGill outlast visiting Laval 3-2 in a two-hour, 20-minute marathon at Love Competition Hall last Friday. The 21-year-old physical education junior had 13 kills to go along with a team-leading 24 digs, four assists and one stuff block.
