Earthquake in Japan

Published: 11 March 2011

(Updated March 16, 2011)

The devastation and loss of life from the enormous earthquake that struck Japan last Friday continue to reverberate around the world.

Many members of our McGill family may be concerned about loved ones, friends or colleagues who may have been affected by this disaster.

Those seeking information on Canadian citizens believed to be in Japan can contact the Emergency Operations Centre of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada at 1-800-387-3124.

McGill’s International Student Services, with  Counselling Services, will be offering a Support Group for Students from Japan.  One of our Japanese students, doing a PhD in Counselling, has offered to facilitate a meeting, in Japanese, so that students can come and discuss this very difficult situation and seek comfort from their peers.  An email to announce the event will be sent tonight (March 16) to students from Japan.

We would also like to remind you of the various other services that are available to members of the McGill community.
