MONTREAL -- The McGill curling club is holding open try-outs for McGill students to participate at the upcoming World University Winter Games. The deadline for all interested McGill students to sign up is Sunday, Jan. 17 and the location and schedule of the playdown will be announced as soon as they are finalized.

Assuming two teams enter, the tryout playoff structure is as follows:

Ìý

A best-of-three series held over the span of a weekend and games will last 10 ends. Two slides and one practice rock up and down allowed prior to game (Note: if team is late, practice time is forfeited). There will be timeouts permitted per team (a coach OR alternate allowed on ice during time-outs). Games will be monitored by a neutral official (potentially coach Kevin Alladin). This person will handle any rules issues or situations that occur over the playdowns. Games may be timed if the equipment can be obtained. A standard 73 minutes per team would be used.

Ìý

Should a third team register, a double knockout format will be instituted. The defending McGill curling champions would be seeded first and obtain a bye in the first round.

Ìý

Game 1:Ìý Team's 2 and 3 would play each other.

Ìý

Game 2: (A Final): The winner of Game 1 faces Team 1 (the winner of this game is declared A side winner).

Ìý

Game 3: Th loser from A Final faces the loser from Game 1.ÌýÌý (The loser is eliminated).

Ìý

Game 4Ìý (B Final): The winner of Game 3 faces A side winner----Winner of this game is declared B side winner

Ìý

If A and B side winners are the same, playdowns are over; that team represents McGill.

Ìý

If two different winners, then:

Ìý

Game 5: A side winner vs B Side Winner (championship final)
