MONTREAL - Mélodie Daoust, a freshman forward from Valleyfield, Que., scored the game-winner and assisted on another as No.1-ranked McGill blanked the Ottawa Gee-Gees 3-0 in women's university hockey team at McConnell Arena, Friday.

It marked McGill's 34th consecutive victory over Ottawa and improved the team's lifetime record to 47-2-1 against the Gee-Gees, who haven't defeated the Martlets since a 2-1 decision in the nation's capital on Feb. 7, 2007.

McGill had a 40-20 edge in shots as fifth-year goaltender Charline Labonté from Boisbriand, Que., made 20 saves to extend her CIS career shutout record to 40 and improve to 72-2-0 lifetime in 74 regular season games.

The Martlets did all of their scoring in the first period, getting goals from Daoust at 1:23, Ann-Sophie Bettez (shorthanded) of Sept-Iles, Que., at 16:37 and Ottawa native Chelsea Saunders at 18:54.

Both teams went 0-for-4 on the power-play.

Gee-Gees netminder Stéphanie Mercier of Smooth Rock Falls, Ont., made 37 saves in a losing cause as her record evened out at 3-3-0.

The division-leading Martlets improved to 9-1-0 and will play their final game before the December exam break at Concordia (3-6-0) on Sunday at 3 p.m. Ottawa (3-8) will resume play on Jan. 6, when they return to Montreal to take on the Carabins.
