Condolences to family of Michelle Tisseyre
A McGill graduate, Michelle Tisseyre was a pioneer among female journalists. In the 1940s, she became the first woman to anchor Radio-Canada’s “grand journal” flagship newscast. During her award-winning career, she became one of the network’s most widely recognized hosts, heading programs such as Music-Hall, Rendez-vous avec Michelle and Aujourd’hui. She also went on to a second career as a literary translator.
Michelle Tisseyre returned to McGill in 2001 to finish her Bachelor of Arts degree, which she had begun nearly seven decades earlier. She received her diploma in 2006, at the age of 88.
“With intelligence and elegance, Michelle Tisseyre forged a path in broadcast journalism,” said McGill Principal Suzanne Fortier. “She was an inspiration to all of us. Our thoughts today are with her family and loved ones.”
