OTTAWA (CIS) - The McGill Redmen remain second in the CIS men's hockey rankings for the sixth time in seven polls this season.

The reigning national champion University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds (10-2-1) top the poll once again, with 165 points this week from the national media panel thanks to 14 first-place votes - two more than last week - to remain in front of the McGill Redmen (12-1-2), who maintain their No. 2 status for the fifth consecutive week after earning a pair of first-place nods and 146 points.

Ìý

The remaining vote for No. 1 went to the eighth-ranked Lakehead Thunderwolves (13-3-0).

Rounding out the new Top 10 are the Alberta Golden Bears (10-2-2), up two positions to a season-best No. 3; the No. 4 Western Ontario Mustangs (11-1-2), who stay put; No. 5 Moncton Aigles Bleus (9-4-0), down two spots; No. 6 Saskatchewan Huskies (9-2-2), up one; No. 7 Acadia Axemen (9-4-1), down one; No. 9 Manitoba Bisons (9-3-2), up one; and No. 10 UQTR Patriotes (12-5-0), unranked a week ago.

UNB downed cross-town rival St. Thomas 5-3 on Friday night in its lone outing of the past week. The University Cup champs, who hold a two-point lead over Acadia atop the AUS standings, host the Tommies for a rematch on Friday in their final conference game of the fall semester.

McGill had a successful road trip last weekend defeating Nipissing 4-1 and Ryerson 4-3. The Redmen, who lead UQTR by two points in the OUA East, needed a hat-trick from sniper Francis Verreault-Paul on Sunday to edge the Rams, including the game-winner with 11 seconds left in regulation.

Ìý

Alberta travelled to Regina last weekend and swept a two-game series against the Cougars, 6-1 and 4-3 in overtime. The Bears, who top Saskatchewan by two points in the Canada West standings, are the hottest team in the country going into the final weekend of the fall session with seven straight wins.

Ìý

The Golden Bears are part of the feature match-up of the coming weekend as they hit the road once again for a Friday-Saturday doubleheader against No. 9 Manitoba, in Winnipeg.
