$500,000 gift to fund bursaries for Desautels undergraduates, fellowships for graduate studies

The Desautels Faculty of Management is pleased to announce that a $500,000 donation by Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) will fund $50,000 a year in bursaries and fellowships for McGill students over the coming decade.

CIBC Entrance Bursaries, totaling $250,000 over 10 years, will be awarded on the basis of academic standing and financial need to undergraduate students entering Desautels. Value of these awards will vary typically between $1,000 and $5,000, for a total of $25,000 a year -- representing five to 25 such awards annually.

CIBC Fellowships, also totaling $250,000 over 10 years, will be awarded to outstanding graduate students in any Faculty at McGill based on academic merit. These awards will have a minimum value of $2,500 each, with annual value of the awards to total $25,000.

"We want to continue to attract the very brightest management students from across Canada and beyond," said Peter Todd, Dean of the Desautels Faculty of Management.  "The CIBC bursaries will help assure that the best candidates choose to attend our school, regardless of their financial circumstances. And we're delighted that CIBC Fellowships will support cutting-edge research across the university."

This gift adds to the momentum of Campaign McGill: History in the Making, which is raising the funds needed to attract and retain top students and faculty, increase access to quality education, and ensure that McGill remains one of the world's great research-intensive and student-centred universities.
