Chartrand, Dorion named McGill athletes of the week

MONTREAL - Defencemen Cathy Chartrand of Lac Nominigue, Que., and Marc-André Dorion of St. Hubert, Que., are the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 10, 2010.

Chartrand, a member of the hockey Martlets who stands 5-foot-10, was involved on five of McGill's seven goals scored during a pair of weekend victories that extended the team's CIS record win streak to 72 games. She tallied twice and added an assist in a 4-2 victory over Ottawa last Friday, then added two helpers in Saturday's 3-0 decision over Concordia. The third-year physical & health education major is the top-scoring blueliner in the nation with eight goals and 18 points in 12 games. A graduate of Polyvalent Saint-Joseph she previously attended College Saint-Laurent.

Dorion, 22, who patrols the blueline for the hockey Redmen, had three points, including a goal, in two weekend victories. The 5-foot-11, 188-pound physical education sophomore leads al OUA rearguards in points with a 5-18- 23 record in 16 games, which ranks third in the nation among all defencemen. A former all-star with Baie Comeau in the QMJHL, Dorion, who joined the Redmen in 2008 after attending the NHL's Dallas Stars rookie camp, is a graduate of Collège de Baie Comeau,
