BURLINGTON, VT -- Catherine Ward, a McGill graduate from TMR, Que., set up the opening goal at 3:32 of the first period as Canada skated to a 5-1 win over Finland in a semifinal at the IIHF women's world hockey championship at the Gutterson Fieldhouse Friday. Canada, which had a 43-15 edge in shots on net, will play the United States for the gold medal on Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Shannon Szabados earned the victory between the pipes for Canada, while Noora Räty took the loss for Finland.

It was the second helper of the tourney for Ward, the former all-Canadian rearguard for McGill. She also set up Canada's second marker in a 14-1 blitzkrieg over the Russians on April 10. In that game, McGill netminder Charline ³¢²¹²ú´Ç²Ô³Ùé needed only six saves to collect the win as Canada held a lopsided 41-7 margin in shots. ³¢²¹²ú´Ç²Ô³Ùé, a native of Boisbriand, Que., improved to 1-1 in her two starts.

Canada has a 3-1 overall record in the tourney, opening with a 9-2 loss to the USA on April 7, followed by a 3-2 win over Finland the next night.
