BLACKBERRY - CIS TOP 10 TUESDAY (#23): Hockey Redmen remain No.2 in rankings
Ìý
OTTAWA -- The No.2-ranked hockey Redmen, which swept Nipissing University in an OUA East semifinal series last week, are the only McGill squad ranked among the CIS Top 10 this week. The hockey Martlets, who have been No.1 all season long, are not listed this week because the final women's hockey rankings were issue last week.
Ìý
In other CIS sports, the University of Saskatchewan women and CarletonÌý men top the final CIS basketball rankings of the 2010-11 season. Calgary leads the final rankings in swimming after successfully defending both national team titles last weekend, while UNB (men's hockey) and Windsor (women's & men's track and field) also maintain their No. 1 status.
Ìý
In women's basketball, the Huskies, who opened the campaign at No. 6 back in early November, topped the final eight coaches' polls of the season (out of 14).
Ìý
After taking first place in Canada West with an impressive 22-2 conference mark, Saskatchewan kicked off the playoffs last weekend with a two-game sweep of Calgary, 76-68 and 75-64. The Huskies will now host the CWUAA Final Four starting Friday with a semifinal matchup against Fraser Valley.
Ìý
In men's hoops, the Ravens were ranked No. 1 from day one and then proved their worth by posting an unblemished 22-0 record in conference play.
Ìý
Carleton made quick work of Ryerson last Saturday in their post-season debut, qualifying for the OUA Final Four with a 97-73 OUA East semifinal. The Ravens face Wilfrid Laurier Friday evening in Hamilton with the winners advancing to the Wilson Cup final.
