OTTAWA - Four McGill varsity teams find themselves in the CIS Top 10 national rankings this week including both hockey and swim teams.

Ìý

In women's hockey, the No.1-ranked McGill Martlets improvd to 10-0 vs CIS teams and 7-0 in league play as Olympic gold medalist Charline Labonté posted back-to-back shutouts, blanking Saint Mary's 6-0 and Ottawa 3-0 last week. Labonté improved to 54-1 in conference play for her career including 33 shutouts, which ties her with current Laurier goalie Liz Knox for first among CIS all-time shutout leaders.

In men's hockey, the Golden Bears (10-1-1) held on to the pole position despite dropping a point to archrival Saskatchewan during a two-game set in Edmonton. Alberta claimed the opener 6-4 on Friday before losing 4-3 in overtime to the No. 6 Huskies on Saturday.

Ìý

The voters weren't as kind to the hockey Redmen, however, which dropped one position to No.3 after splitting their two road games. They defeated York 3-2 last Friday for their 18th consecutive win to break a 74-year-old school record, then lost 3-2 to Brock in an overtime shootout. The Redmen are 18-0-1 overall and 13-0-1 in league play.

Ìý

In swimming, a great weekend in Halifax, where they qualified 17 swimmers for the CIS championships, bolstered both McGill squads in the Top 10.The Redmen moved up three spots to No.6 in the nation, while the previously unranked Martlets jumped into the No.5 spot overall, their highest ranking in over a decade.

Ìý

In women's volleyball, the Thunderbirds (6-2) travelled to Winnipeg and swept a two-game series over the Manitoba Bisons (4-3), who were No. 1 before the duels. UBC moves up five spots in the new Top 10 following a straight-set win and a 3-1 victory.

Ìý

In men's volleyball, the undefeated Rouge et Or (9-0) are up one position to No. 1 following three wins in three outings versus AUS rivals in interlock play, including a 3-1 success against No. 8 Dalhousie. Meanwhile, formerly top-ranked Alberta falls to No. 2 after a weekend split with No. 3 Trinity Western that included a straight-set loss.

Ìý

In women's basketball, the Lancers (5-1) return to the top after falling to No. 2 a week ago. Windsor moves up thanks to convincing wins over Ottawa, 81-58, and No. 7 Carleton, 68-48, but also to a lopsided 23-point loss (72-49) by former No. 1 Victoria at the hands of No. 3 Regina.

Ìý

In men's basketball, the top-ranked Ravens (6-0) kept rolling over the past weekend with dominating road victories against Western, 91-66, and No. 8 Windsor, 78-59.
