Bettez keeps rocking, Martlets still rolling; Win streak at 69

MONTREAL - Ann-Sophie Bettez notched a second-period hat-trick and added an assist as top-ranked McGill extended their win streak to 69 games and gobbled Guelph 8-1 on Day 2 of the Theresa Humes women's hockey tournament at Concordia University, Tuesday.

years with a victory over No.4-ranked Manitoba on Wednesday at 4
p.m.

Bettez, a two-time all-Canadian from Sept-Iles, Que., leads the Martlets in goals with 23 in 24 games overall. She is two points shy of the team lead with 23-15-38.

McGill, which led 3-0 after the opening stanza and 7-1 after two, outshot the Gryphons 46-29, including a 26-9 margin in the second period.

Cathy Chartrand of Lac Nominingue, Que., the top-scoring defenceman in the nation, continued her stellar campaign with the game-winning goal and three helpers. A strong all-Canadian candidate, she now has a 12-17-29 record in 28 contests overall.

Other McGill goals came from rearguard Jasmine Sheehan of Mississauga and veteran Carly Hill of Dorval, Que., plus freshmen Darragh Hamilton of Ormstown, Que., and Kim Ton-That of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que.

Martlet captain Vanessa Davidson contributed three assists and now leads the team with a 16-24-40 record in 24 contests overall.

McGill scored seven straight goals before Guelph forward Dayna Kanis managed to put a puck past rookie netminder Andrea Weckman, a native of Kitchener, Ont., who kicked aside 28 of 29 shots for the win, improving her record to 4-3 overall.

Chelsea Roy started and took the loss for Guelph. She was beaten five times on 15 shots before being relieved early in the middle period by Danielle Skoufranis, who saved 28 of 31 shots.
