Béliveau becomes first McGill coach to reach 400-win plateau
Ìý
MONTREAL-- Rachèle Béliveau of the McGill University women's volleyball team, has become the first coach in school history to earn 400 career wins.
The former Canadian Olympian from Sherbrooke, Que., reached the milestone without much fanfare, on Oct. 4, after guiding the Martlets to a 3-1 victory over McMaster in the gold medal match of the Ottawa Quality Hotel Preseason Classic tournament.
Béliveau, in her 19th season behind the bench, currently owns a 403-367-2 overall record as head coach of the Martlets. Prior to coaching, she played for the national team between 1983 and 1986, including the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, where Canada finished eighth.
Béliveau has been voted Quebec conference coach of the year four
times, winning the award in 1996-97, 1997-98, 1999-00 and
2001-02.Ìý She also earned CIS coach of the year honours in
1996-97.
