MONTREAL – Sean Anthony, a graduating senior with the McGill University men’s basketball squad, has earned a spot on the “Smart Gilas” national team of the Republic of the Philippines.
The 6-foot-4, 204-pound forward from Vancouver, B.C., was signed after a tryout at a three-day basketball camp in Las Vegas, Nevada, earlier this week.
Anthony, a four-time all-star in the Quebec University Basketball League, ranks fourth among McGill’s all-time scoring leaders with 1,834 career points over a school record 152 contests for a 12.1 average per game. He reached double figures in scoring 82 times with the Redmen, including 21 “double-doubles”. Anthony is slated to earn his physical education degree this spring.
The Philippines national team is scheduled to play next at the 20th annual FIBA Asia Champions Cup tourney in Jakarta, Indonesia, May 12-20.
