The Asia Pacific Law Association of McGill together with the Hans & Tamar Oppenheimer Chair in Public International law invite you to a panel discussion on Australia’s Response to Asylum Seekers, with a particular focus on its offshore solution in the Asia Pacific.  

The panel will be chaired by Professor François Crépeau, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants. Le panel discutera de la politique australienne envers les demandeurs d'asile et des répercussions juridiques de cette politique au niveau national et international. Les panélistes sont: 

  • Joanna Richardson on the development of the offshore solution and potential implications under international criminal law 
  • Susan Ballard on the use of private corporations in offshore agreements
  • Anna Purkey on the fiduciary nature of the state-refugee relationship
