Producer. Professor. Neuroscientist. Rocker.

Enjoy an entertaining and engaging evening with Professor Daniel Levitin and Martin Grant, Dean, Faculty of Science.

Discover what half a dozen songs can reveal about the prehistoric yet elegant systems at play when we dance at a wedding or tune out with an iPod. In his new book, The World in Six Songs, Dan Levitin presents his theory explaining how music shaped human culture.

Dan Levitin’s research has made him a hit on the media circuit. He has been featured in numerous articles in major newspapers and magazines, and has made appearances on the Discovery Channel, BBC, CBC and National Public Radio. His eclectic fan club boasts such notables as David Byrne, Sting, Oliver Sacks and Dave Barry. As a record producer, he has worked with a mind-boggling line-up of performers – including Stevie Wonder, Chris Isaak and Santana – and earned 17 gold and platinum records in the process. Currently an Associate Professor of Psychology and McGill, Levitin heads the University’s laboratory for Music Perception, Cognition and Expertise, which studies the science of musical sound from the cellular to the emotional level.
