The Neuro Film Series presents “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mindâ€Ìý on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 6:30 pm in the Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre at The Neuro. ÌýEternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a 2004 American romantic comedy-drama science fiction film about an estranged couple who have each other erased from their memories. The film uses elements of science fiction, psychological thriller and a nonlinear narrative to explore the nature of memory and romantic love. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind may have been inspired by neuroscientist Karim Nader’s (Ï㽶ÊÓƵ) research on altering traumatic memories. To learn more about this, follow this link .

Our Neuro host for this film is Liam Durcan. Dr. Durcan was born in Winnipeg where he obtained his MD from the University of Manitoba. He moved to Montreal to complete his residency in neurology at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ. He is currently a staff neurologist at the Montreal Neurological Hospital and an assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ. He has published short fiction since 2000 in a variety of Canadian and American Journals. His short fiction has won the 2004 Quebec Writers Federation/CBC prize and his work has been shortlisted 3 times for the CBC National Literary Awards. He has had two books of fiction published (A Short Journey by Car--2004 and Garcia's Heart--2007) (/reporter/39/17/durcan/). Dr. Durcan lives in Montreal with his wife and children. He will offer comments and invite discussion about the film following it’s close.
