Montreal Governance

Raymond Préfontaine
Although his portrait graces the Metro station named for Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, Montreal’s second mayor, Peter McGill, was no relation to founder James McGill. One of his successors, however, James Ferrier, become chancellor of McGill after serving as Montreal’s fourth mayor. Since then, no fewer than four McGill grads have served as mayor of the University’s hometown:

  • William Hales Hingston (MDCM1851)
  • John Abbott (BCL1847)
  • Raymond Préfontaine (BCL1873)
  • James John Edmund Guerin (MDCM1878)
