My McGill Bucketlist: Things To Do On and Around Campus Before Graduating

Workstudy communication assistant Kimberley Lord has a few McGill and Montreal inspired experiences she wants to do before graduating this spring. Read her bucket list and discover some activities you may have missed out on during your time at McGill.

As my journey at McGill nears its conclusion, I find myself reflecting on what I and my peers hope to experience before graduation, and for many, before bidding farewell to Montreal. It's intriguing to discover that most of them have crafted bucket lists—a comprehensive inventory of the finest experiences this city and university have to offer. Inspired by their enthusiasm, I've decided to compile my own bucket list, comprising all the recommendations I've received but have yet to explore. Here's what's on my list:Ìý

  • Indulge in a veggie dog from the legendary McGill Hotdog guy: Despite being a vegetarian, I'm thrilled to discover they offer veggie options. It's my mission to savor one on campus before crossing that commencement stage.Ìý

  • Explore the Redpath Museum: Despite passing by its entrance countless times during my McGill journey, I've always postponed a visit. Now, I'm resolute in making it happen!Ìý

  • Discover the charm of the Schulich Library: Despite its prolonged renovation throughout my undergraduate years, I've heard it's a picturesque spot to wander.Ìý

  • Embark on a stroll to Mile End: This neighborhood is the epicenter of Montreal's culinary clash—St. Viateur or Fairmont bagels? I suggest conducting a taste test to form your own verdict.Ìý

  • Marvel at the wonders of the Biodome: Home to captivating creatures like Capybaras and Penguins, spending a leisurely weekend afternoon there is a priority on my agenda.Ìý

  • Sip from the iconic Orange Julep: While some deem it overrated, I feel compelled to sample it firsthand.Ìý

  • Peruse the stalls of Atwater Market and get a lobster roll: A popular choice among my friends' bucket lists, especially a visit to Lucille's stall.Ìý

  • Sample the renowned poutine at La Banquise: Despite Montreal's reputation for this savory dish, I've yet to experience this iconic eatery and its array of flavors.Ìý

  • Delve into the treasures of the Maude Abbott Museum: A haven for aficionados of medical sciences, nestled within the historic Strathcona building, showcasing 19th-century documents and other fascinating medical artifacts.Ìý

  • Embrace the bustling atmosphere of OAP: Despite the lengthy queues, this spot is a quintessential part of Montreal's finals season, offering budget-friendly drinks and snacks.Ìý

  • Climb Mont-Royal: While I did this in my first year I highly suggest everyone take the time to walk up those stairs!Ìý

  • Visit Westmount: I would like to think I have explored a lot of Montreal but somehow this neighborhood fell through the cracks while I’m still here. I hope to walk through the streets and maybe check out a cafe.Ìý

These bucket list adventures mean a lot to me. They show how much I've grown and discovered during my time at McGill. Each item on my list, like trying a veggie dog or visiting the Redpath Museum, reminds me of all the good times I've had. As I go on these last adventures, I'll remember the fun times I've shared with my friends. I'm thankful for all these experiences and excited to make more memories. Although it may not feel like it at the moment, four years fly by in the blink of an eye. For any readers interested in creating their own bucket list, I highly recommend starting now!Ìý
