Adam Aberra, M1, Economics
Adam will intern at the Elimu Impact Evaluation Center in Kianyaga, Kenya. Elimu uses randomized experiments to evaluate the impact of various development projects and identify the most effective ways to reduce poverty. Specifically, Adam will oversee an experiment that seeks to assess the causal impact of legal aid on economic growth. Adam looks forward to gaining from this experience on the path to a career as a development economist.Ìý

Georges Delrieu, U2, International Development Studies
Georges will be interning at the Elimu Impact Evaluation Centre in Kianyaga, Kenya this summer. During his time in Kenya, he will be conducting data collection and impact evaluations on various ongoing development projects. He hopes this internship will help him understand why some projects work and some do not. Also, he will be working on a waste management project that he shares with his brother. This will be his second internship funded by the Faculty of Arts Internship Awards and after having had a great experience working in Nepal, he is excited to travel again.

Alexis du Fayet de la Tour, U2, Political Science
Alexis is an international student from London, UK. He will be interning this summer at the Social Justice Connection in Montreal. As a Political Science and International Development Studies student, he is very interested in developing areas and especially in their education sectors. He will be working to develop and reinforce a network of certified specialized practitioners in the field of global responsible citizenship education. He hopes to bring what he has learnt in Political Science and International Development Studies to use and further his experience in international development.

Christian Holmes, U2, History and Political Science
Christian will intern at the 'Social Justice Connection' (SJC) in Montréal this summer. The Social Justice Connection is a human rights advocacy organisation that works towards establishing a more equal and just society. Christian is currently a second year History and Political Science student who is interested in pursuing a career in human rights law after graduation. Christian's internship will offer him the opportunity to experience a professional environment that is closely related to his personal interests.

Joseph James, M1, History
Joseph will be interning in Accra, Ghana at the Centre for Democratic Development, a think-tank and advocacy organization that is primarily engaged with policy research and capacity building in order to encourage good governance and government-civil society relations. Joseph plans to make use of this experience to further his research and in order to furnish himself with the necessary skills to enter the field of development policy and research.

Felix Keser, U3, Political Science and International Development Studies
Felix will be interning at the Indigenous Peoples of Africa Coordinating Committee (IPACC), in Cape Town, South Africa. Through this internship, Felix is eager to learn more about the complexity and diversity of Africa’s identities and paradigms. His academic interests include the role of public-private partnerships in fostering sustainable development, institutional development and international strategy.

Zev Macklin, U2, Political Science and History
Zev will be interning with the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in Accra, Ghana. CHRAJ is an organization dedicated to creating a free and just society in Ghana, where human rights and dignity are protected, and the government is accountable and transparent. Zev is looking forward to developing a deeper understanding of the issues that surround states’ transitions to democracy and the policy mechanisms that protect human rights and foster good governance.

Troy Björkman, U1, Political Science and International Development Studies
Troy will be interning at the European Parliament’s information office in Stockholm, Sweden. He is an international student pursuing a joint-honours degree in Political Science and International Development Studies. Troy is interested in the political and legal dynamics that underpin the relationship between international governmental organizations and individual nation states, as well as why and to what extent individual states choose to relinquish aspects of their sovereignty to such supranational bodies.

Zahra Henry, U2, International Development Studies
Zahra will be interning at the CARICOM Secretariat with the Culture and Community Unit. She has a particular interest in the role of culture in fostering development and sees this internship as an opportunity to explore the issues of youth entrepreneurship, culture and regional integration in the Caribbean. From this experience, Zahra hopes to deepen her knowledge about development issues faced by the region and gain professional experience in regional policy planning.

Melanie Andreas, U2, Honors Political Science
Melanie is an international student from Madison, New Jersey. This summer, she will be serving as a Human Rights Education Intern with the Social Justice Connection in Montreal. She is incredibly excited to pair her passion for human rights and interest in international law to her work at Social Justice Connection. This opportunity will allow her to expand her knowledge through detailed research on human rights education while simultaneously giving back to her community.

Lucy Cui, U3, Environment & Geography
Lucy will be interning with Planning Aid Scotland, a national non-profit based in Edinburgh, Scotland in the United Kingdom. The organization is dedicated to promoting participatory planning practices and civic engagement to empower local voices in neighbourhood place-making. Lucy is a U3 student studying Environment and Urban Geography, and has deep interests in urban planning, city development, environmental and social sustainability, and capacity building at a grassroots level.

Ipek Ertan, U2, International Development Studies & Political Science
Ipek will be interning with Social Justice Connection in Montreal, Canada, an independent international solidarity organization engaging Canadians in working for a more socially just world. She will be mainly involved in promoting and updating SJC workshops about corporate accountability in the Canadian mining industry operating abroad and international trade. Her involvement in SJC's projects on promoting Human Rights is a crucial step toward realizing her career goals in this area.

Dean Evangeliou, U2, Environment and Economics
Dean will be interning with the Climate Reality Project Canada this summer. The Climate Reality Project Canada was founded by former vice-president Al Gore, and seeks to inform Canadian citizens about the potential impacts and solutions regarding climate change. Dean has a passion for the environment and the economic impacts associated with it. This internship will provide Dean with a practical opportunity to expand his current knowledge on climate change as well as give him the opportunity to communicate the dangers of climate change with the public.

Christian Favreau, U1, English Literature
Christian will be interning with Véhicule Press, a small publishing house in Montreal that has published award-winning poetry, fiction and essays. Canadian publishing houses such as Véhicule are essential because they promote the arts and culture that larger, mainstream publishers frequently overlook. Christian aims to understand the processes of marketing and editing in the publishing world to strengthen his future research at the post-graduate level in English Literature, geared toward the print industry.

Teresa Gerner, U3, International Development Studies
Teresa will be interning at Casa Pueblito (formerly Pueblito Canada) in Toronto, Ontario. Casa Pueblito supports the development of local health care, childcare, and education programs in Latin America. Teresa is a U3 student majoring in International Development Studies with a double minor in Geography and Hispanic Studies. She has always been interested in Latin America, and has previously spent time volunteering with children living under marginal economic conditions in Bolivia. She is excited to work with an organization that supports grassroots community development, as well as gain experience related to her field of study.

Julia Hensley, U3, Women’s Studies
Julia will be interning at the Native Women’s Shelter in Montreal, an organization that aims to provide a safe and supportive environment that strengthens cultural identity, self-esteem and independence for Indigenous women and their children. She will be working on the Holistic Health Project, which aims to provide culturally relevant education to vulnerable groups of Indigenous women, and enhance the accessibility of community-based service providers in the urban Montreal area. Drawing on her major in Women’s Studies, Julia hopes to help bridge the gap between theory and practice to explore the link between colonization and health issues confronting Indigenous women in Canada.

Clement Julhia, U2, Political Science
Clement will be interning at the Centre for Policy Studies in London. The CPS is a British think-tank founded by Margaret Thatcher which specializes in issues of international relations and trade, especially within Europe. Clement will be in position responsible for keeping followers of the organization up to date with their most recent articles as well as news for around the world. He is currently majoring in Political Science and Economics and with a minor in Arabic language.

Cecilia MacArthur, U3, Political Science
Cecilia is pursuing an honors degree in Political Science with minors in Women’s Studies and Arabic. She will be interning with immigration lawyers at the Community Legal Services and Counseling Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a clinic that provides free legal assistance and psychological counseling to low income individuals. Cecilia is passionate about social justice and sees this internship as an opportunity to explore how social justice can be enacted through law.

Mina Mohit, U3, World Religions & Geography
Mina Mohit will be interning at the Association for India's Development (AID) in Chennai, India. She will be working with women in marginalized communities to create educational visual stories with hopes of placing value on their disparaged gender role. Having studied South Asia in her academic endeavors, Mina sees this internship as a chance to leave her textbooks at home and connect to the culture on a closer level.

Jenna Nelson, U1, East Asian Studies
Jenna will be interning at Universitas Islam Negeri Malang Language centre as an English teacher, providing services and workshops to enhance the English competency of students in Malang, Indonesia. She will be conducting English classes, editing the academic works of faculty members, as well as supporting further developments of the English language program. Jenna plans to teach English abroad after graduating and hopes this internship will give her the experience and skills for the job.

Emma Noradounkian, U2, Political Science
Emma is a U2 Political Science student with a drive for social justice and news reporting. This summer, Emma will intern at CKUT Radio, a non-profit campus/community FM radio station dedicated to broadcasting a voice for the voiceless. This internship will provide Emma with hands-on training and experience in radio production and a further understanding of social justice issues relevant to Montreal and McGill communities at the grassroots level.

Joseph Pallez, U3, Economics
Joseph will be interning at Climate Reality Project Canada this summer. He will work with climate change specialists in order to educate Canadians about new challenges related to environmental change. Currently an Economics major and Political Science minor, he hopes to help the Climate Reality Project by using his academic knowledge as well as his working experience. He hopes this internship will strengthen his understanding of issues related to climate change.

Kimberley Simon-Robert, U2, International Development Studies and East Asian Studies
Kimberley will be interning at the Social Justice Connection in Montreal this summer, an independent international organization devoted to providing education and advocacy about global poverty and inequality. She will be working as a Human Rights Intern with responsibilities including researching and developing new public education projects on human rights issues, as well as promoting workshops on debt and trade. Kimberley is looking forward to developing new innovative ways to incorporate awareness of human rights issues in educational activities, as well as furthering her knowledge on social justice.

Stuart Smith, U2, Anthropology and Women’s Studies

Stuart will be working in Toronto with Jane's Walk, a not-for-profit organization which facilitates free, citizen-led walking tours to share stories and spaces amongst neighbours in the urban context. He will be facilitating focus-groups and interviews, as well as processing participant feedback so as to ensure community accessibility and effective outreach strategies in Toronto.

Carol Stephan, U3, Political Science and Middle East Studies
Carol will be interning this summer as a Human Rights Education Intern at the Social Justice Connection in Montreal.Ìý This internship will give her the opportunity to research and develop new public education projects on human rights and social inequality. Carol is very passionate about social justice and human rights, she is looking forward to help promote SJC's vision of social justice, fairness and cooperation in a more socially just world.

Maud Urbas, U3, Political Science and Psychology
Maud will intern at the Social Justice Connection, an independent human rights organization based in Montreal that aims to engage Canadians and provides advocacy about global poverty and inequality. She will be working as Education to Human Rights Intern, developing new pedagogical tools as part of the "Educonnector" project, which advances human rights learning in schools. Maud is looking forward to developing her passion for educational psychology and human rights in a stimulating non-profit environment.

Marilyn Verghis, U2, International Development and Economics
Marilyn will be interning at the New York headquarters of Human Rights Watch, a human rights monitoring and advocacy organization known for its in-depth investigations, its incisive and timely reporting, and its innovative, influential advocacy campaigns. She will mainly be involved in researching and reporting on human rights related issues in Sub-Saharan Africa and hopes to pursue a career in human rights law.

Ana Vermeulen U2 English Literature and World Religions
Ana will be interning for Jennifer Zacharius Public Relations in Santa Barbara, California, a Public Relations firm that specializes in brand building for local companies and non-profits. Ana has been on student council since joining McGill, so she is interested in using her skills in networking, representation and event planning within the firm. She currently is a member of the Arts Undergraduate Society and the Religious Studies Undergraduate Society.

Anne Cutshall, U3, International Development Studies: Anne is pursuing an honours degree in International Development Studies along with a minor in Management. She will be interning at Nexos Comunitarios, a Peruvian NGO that aims to promote responsible human development among populations that live in poverty and social exclusion. Anne will be working on the Healthy Meals Prescription Program, focusing on maternal and child health in the Lares District. She is interested in public health and sustainable development and looks forward to gaining invaluable experience in these fields.

Vareesha Khan, U2, English and Political Science: Vareesha will be interning at the Malang campus of the Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) in Indonesia. She is involved in a multitude of campus activities, such as planning committees, legislative councils, editorial boards, and media teams. She hopes to use her passions in creative mediums, such as writing and photography, to bring social awareness to global issues. The internship will offer her an opportunity to learn how to make education more accessible internationally.

Laura Holden, U2, International Development Studies and Environment: Laura will be interning in Nova Scotia with the Atlantic Coastal Action Program. The organization is located in Cape Breton and is a non-profit organization that actively seeks to conserve and protect freshwater ecosystems, while also educating surrounding communities by raising environmental awareness. Laura is a third year student majoring in International Development Studies and Environment. This internship will offer her the opportunity of gaining valuable experience within the field of conservation and she is excited to utilize her knowledge first-hand, while working on the conservation of freshwater ecosystems.

Marion Lugagne Delpon, U3, Political Science: Marion will be interning with the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in Accra, Ghana. She is majoring in Political Science with two minors in Anthropology and International Development. She is interested in Ghanaian culture and is looking forward to this internship opportunity, as it will give her experience in understanding the correlation between human rights and development, two topics she has a deep interest in.

Dafne Beri, U2, Political Science and World Islamic and Middle East Studies: Dafne will be interning at the Indigenous Peoples of Africa Coordinating Committee (IPACC), in Cape Town, South Africa. IPACC’s main goal is to strengthen leadership and organisational capacity of indigenous civil society in Africa. Dafne will conduct research and contribute to IPACC’s programme on indigenous women. She is very excited for this internship experience and she is looking forward to promote recognition and respect for indigenous peoples in Africa.

Mehar Gujral, U1, International Development Studies and Economics: Mehar will be interning with EduCARE India in Dharamsala, India. She will be working as a project manager for the women and girls empowerment program through which she will engage with and educate the local community on issues like education, gender rights, microfinance, health, and sustainability. Currently a first year student studying Honours International Development Studies, Economics, and Entrepreneurship with a focus on South Asia and Gender Studies, Mehar has previously served as a teen advisor to the United Nations Foundation on girls’ rights and as a delegate to the Commission on the Status of Women 2015 held at UN Headquarters in New York.

Mabel Harriman-Smith, U2, International Development Studies: Mabel Harriman-Smith is a second year student in International Development and Cultural Studies from the New York area, and will be interning with the Association for India's Development (AID) in Chennai, India this summer. She will be working in the education sector for AID's Eureka Child project. She has always been interested in advancing global children's welfare and sees this internship the starting point of her career in humanitarianism.

Avital Li, U1, Sustainability, Science and Society: Avital is a second year student in the Arts and Science Interfaculty program in Science, Sustainability and Society. She will be interning at Water Ecuador where she will be conducting research on water cleanliness in the Ecuadoran Amazon. Through this internship, she hopes to broaden her knowledge about indigenous peoples’ rights and the water and sanitation-related issues that they face.

Zinia Li, U2, Sociology: Zinia will be interning with the Sapa O’Chau social enterprise in Vietnam. Sapa O’Chau’s mission is to provide educational and employment resources to ethnic minority groups in the area, which falls within Zinia’s specialization in Race and Ethnicity in her sociology degree. Zinia will be working in the enterprise’s Hmong Handicrafts Store, where she will be help build on the design and marketing of the business.

Francesca Nassif, U1, Political Science: As a student passionate about humanitarian and political issues around the world and especially those afflicting the Middle East, Francesca will be completing an internship with the international organization Visualizing Impact affiliated with Visualizing Palestine, in their offices located in Beirut, Lebanon. In her activities outside classes, she has mainly been involved with McGill's Chapter of War Child as their Vice President External. Francesca hopes to be able to travel around the globe and gain hands-on experience in her field of interest while acquiring as much knowledge as possible about the nuances of conflict in the Middle East. She aspires to contribute to helping restore human rights wherever they are being violated.

Angela Shen, U2, International Development Studies and Psychology: Angela will intern in Jakarta, Indonesia, at both the Language Centre at the UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and the Canadian Embassy. At the UIN, she will hold English classes and workshops for students and staff and update curricula. This internship will be a great opportunity for Angela to explore Indonesian culture and its influence on public education policy, complementing her broader interests in international social policy and cultural neuroscience.

Nicole Sawin, U2, Sociology: Nicole will be interning at Children of Bududa, a weekly enrichment program that provides social and academic support for up to 150 vulnerable children and youth living in a poor, rural community in Uganda. With a passion for international child protection, she is very excited to learn about the challenges and realities of service provision in this context and what children and youth need to support their well-being.

Sonia Kim, U1, Sociology and International Development Studies: Sonia is a second year student, double majoring in Sociology and International Development Studies. This summer, Sonia will intern in Seoul, South Korea for the North Korea Strategy Centre as an Oslo scholar. Having lived in various parts of the world, she became interested in politics, the effects of collective identities, migration, and immersing herself in new cultures. This internship will help Sonia gain first-hand experience in studying identity changes arising from migration, allowing her to further her academic interests.

Margaret June Mills, U2, International Development Studies: Margaret will be interning with the Association for India's Development working in their education department: The Eureka Child Foundation. She will engage in both office and field work related to children's education. Margaret is an Honours International Development student with a minor concentration in Comparative Politics. She is excited and grateful to have the opportunity to apply her academic studies in an international context.

Marta Canneri, U3, Joint Honours History and Political Science: Marta will be working at the Council on Foreign Relations as an intern in their Education department. She hopes to help expand the accessibility of international affairs education and offer new analyses on current foreign policy issues. She is interested in international affairs and global governance, and hopes to pursue these fields after graduation through graduate studies or work in research.

Adrian Carlesimo, B.A. U2: Adrian will be interning with MDS Brasil in Rio de Janeiro, one of Brazil’s three largest insurance consultants and brokers. The internship will be a great opportunity to explore the rich, plural culture of South America’s largest and most populous country, develop professional skills, and create permanent and meaningful connections to the Brazilian business community.

Isabelle Dufresne-Lienert, U2, International Development Studies: Isabelle will be interning at Equitas – The International Centre for Human Rights Education as a coordination assistant for their 36th International Human Rights Training Program (IHRTP). Isabelle is looking forward to understanding how participative learning methods allow to find common ground between cultures for the respect of universal human rights. She hopes to develop practical event planning skills as well as to discover from all of the program’s participants the ways in which human rights education can advance peacebuilding.

Jacob Greenspon, U3, Political Science and Economics: Jacob is in his third year of a B.A. (Honours) in Political Science and Economics. On campus he has been elected to leading roles in the Arts Undergraduate Society and as a representative on the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Senate. Jacob will be spending the summer interning in Ottawa at the Economic and Trade Section of the European Union Delegation to Canada, where he looks forward to performing research and analysis on the Canadian economy and on EU—Canada trade relations.

Virginia Valentini, U3, Political Science, Sociology and Russian: Virginia will be interning at Equitas in Montreal, as a logistic/coordinator assistant for the Human Rights Training Program. After spending most of her life in Italy, Virginia went to an International School in France. Once arrived at McGill, she has been working as VP Academic for the Political Science Student Association and created the Italian Students’ Association. By completing this internship, she aspires to get an invaluable insight in Human Rights and learn about the internal functioning of the NGO.

Maria Zaslavsky, U2, Joint Honours Anthropology and Women’s Studies: Maria will be working as a Human Rights Education Intern at the Social Justice Connection, an independent human rights organization in Montreal. She is excited to further her understanding of social inequality and injustice, and looks forward to gaining more experience in human rights advocacy and solidarity activism.

Gul Saeed, U1, Psychology: Gul will be an intern at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute in Tokyo, Japan from May till August 2015. She will be working at the Lab for Affiliative Social Behavior as a summer trainee. This will give her the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of cutting-edge neuroscience research; specifically, the neural mechanism of mammalian parent-infant relationship. Pertaining to this specific topic, Gul will be assisting behavioral and histological experiments using mice; as well as, attending lecture courses throughout her time at RIKEN in order to broaden her understanding of neuropsychology as a whole.

Gerald Sigrist, U3, Political Science: Gerald will be interning at the Embassy of France in Kyrgyzstan. He is a third year student majoring in political science with a double minor in Russian and German. Over the years, Gerald has developed a curiosity for foreign cultures and languages. He has particular interest in Russia and its near abroad, as well as the country’s relations with the West. With this internship he is looking forward to complementing his theoretical knowledge of international relations with a valuable, practical experience from within the diplomatic apparatus.

Shurabi Srikaruna, U2, Economics: Shurabi will be interning this summer at The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, an organization dedicated to the promotion of trade and investment between Canada and Hong Kong. Shurabi’s previous experience in sponsorship, her international work experience paired with her education will help her in this position.Ìý She hopes that she will gain a better insight of the East Asian Market and business culture.

Carly Walter, U2, Political Science: Carly will be an intern at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, an organization dedicated to the promotion of trade and investment between Canada, Hong Kong, and Mainland China. Carly has previously interned in Singapore, and firmly believes in the necessity of cross-cultural collaboration that Chambers of Commerce can provide to Canadian businesses. She hopes that this summer will prepare her for a future international career path.

Bianca Larissa Taberna, U2, Political Science: Currently pursuing a Political Science major with double minors in Sociology and Management, Bianca will be interning for two Toronto organizations: the Regent Park Film Festival as a Community Outreach intern, and the Kapisanan Philippine Centre for Arts & Culture as a Marketing intern. These internships provide a truly unique opportunity for Bianca to combine her deep passion for community development with her academic/professional interests in social change, migration studies, and non-profit business management.

Josie Teed, U2, Cultural Studies and Art History: This summer Josie will be working as a community outreach intern at the Regent Park Film Festival, Toronto’s only free-of-charge film festival. The festival caters to the needs of the social housing project of Regent Park, and is dedicated to reaching isolated communities within the neighborhood and throughout Canada. Josie will be working to build relationships with surrounding businesses and organizations to garner support for the festival.

Joshua Marquis, U2, Cultural Studies: Joshua is a third-year student in Cultural Studies, Art History, and Sexual Diversity Studies. This summer he will intern at Rats 9, a feminist and queer artist-run center and gallery space in Montreal, where he will help with funding, administration, events, and researching future programming. There he will learn the ins and outs of running a not-for-profit cultural organization and working within a mandate committed to amplifying marginalized voices, developing from his experience working at CKUT as one of the voices on Queercorps, the station’s longest running queer radio program.

Phoebe Warren, U1, Political Science and History: Phoebe will be interning in London, England with Liberal International, the international federation of liberal political parties. Phoebe is interested in the field of human rights within politics, particularly the advancement LGBT rights in developing countries. This summer she will primarily work with Liberal International’s human rights working groups on LGBT and women's issues and hopes to bring her unique perspective on these subjects from growing up in the conservative southern United States.

Yasmin Ali, U3, Political Science: Yasmin will be interning at the Native Friendship Centre of Montreal - a community development agency that aims to promote, develop, and enhance the quality of life of the urban Aboriginal population of Montreal and surrounding areas.Ìý This internship will allow her to gain a better understanding of what decolonized community-based social work looks like within urban Canadian spaces.

Gabrielle Jacobs: Gabrielle will intern at the Arab-Jewish Center for Equality, Empowerment and Cooperation (AJEEC) in Israel. Her experience as program coordinator at McGill’s Social Equity and Diversity Education (SEDE) Office will come in handy: she will help train Bedouin and Jewish youth in preparation for an intercultural gap-year project. She will also learn about the other social, economic, and health, programs run by AJEEC. Studying Political Science and Sociology, Gabrielle is looking forward to learning more about inter-ethnic cooperation in an unfamiliar environment.

Mollie Lawrence: Mollie is completing a bachelors in Social Work, and will be interning at Neve Michael Children’s Village in Israel. She has worked with underprivileged children in numerous settings in Montreal. This internship will broaden her clinical expertise as she works with disadvantaged youth, providing her with an international approach to child welfare. Mollie’s experience will provide her with an increased understanding of child welfare practices that will serve to enhance her future social work career.

Justin Schwartz, U3, History and Political Science: Justin will be an assistant archivist at the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre in Montreal, Quebec, a museum dedicated to the memory and public heritage of the Holocaust. Justin is about to start his last semester at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ to complete a bachelor’s degree, and has shown an interest in 20th century history and patterns of resistance. This internship is an opportunity to document survivor testimonies first hand while also working in close collaboration with various local community organizations to further the public's understanding of hate, genocide and anti-Semitism.

Una Jefferson, U2, Sociology: Una will be interning at Policy Options magazine under the umbrella of the Institute for Research in Public Policy, a Montreal think-tank that seeks to provide research and generate debate on emerging policy issues facing Canadian governance. Una will produce podcasts, do editorial work, and help with research. During her internship Una hopes to further her knowledge and skills in editorial writing, Canadian public policy, and sound production.

G Clay Miller, U2, Political Science: G Clay is a student with a passion for international relations and public relations. Having traveled extensively as a child and grown up in Washington D.C., he has become genuinely passionate about public policy as it relates to human and social development. G Clay hopes to utilize the skills he has gained serving as the Director of Public Relations for McGill’s Model UN Assembly, and TempoTrader Co. – a music industry tech start-up, in his internship this summer with Human Rights Watch.

Anju Bansal, U3, Political Science and Psychology: Anju will intern at the Ghana Center for Democratic Development, an independent, non-partisan and non-profit policy research think-tank. The Center pursues its pro-democracy and good governance vision through advocacy, research, analysis and publications, dissemination and outreach as well as training and capacity-building. Anju views the internship as a great opportunity to apply her passion for human rights and gain first-hand experience in the field.

Cameron McPherson, U2, Economics: Cameron will be interning with the Cathance River Education Alliance in Maine, USA to implement environmental education programs and conduct research on sustainability and energy consumption. His studies have focused on econometrics and economic development, including attention to the environment’s relationship with business. Cameron sees this internship as an opportunity to enhance his understanding of these topics, gain valuable applied experience, and promote conservation among all generations in the process.

Colleen Thrasher, U2, Honours International Development: Colleen is studying Honours International Development, focusing on economics and living standards, and minoring in Economics. Her academic interests include ecological economics, environmental development, and natural resource management. She has engaged with these topics personally through academic work and volunteer work promoting environmental awareness. Colleen is interested in engaging in multidisciplinary solution-making and she is thrilled to participate in CREA this summer.

Leo Arcay, U2, International Development Studies: Leo will be interning at Bija Vidyapeeth in northern India this summer. Bija Vidyapeeth is the learning center of an Indian environmental grassroots NGO that promotes sustainable agricultural development through community-building and indigenous knowledge. Leo has always been interested in the global food production system and how its inefficiencies can be reduced in order to feed the world without harming the environment. He is convinced that culture is a major point in development and that his internship at Bija Vidyapeeth will be an opportunity to learn how different societies deal with food issues.

Mina Bahrami, U3, International Development Studies: Mina is in her last year of studies at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ with a major in International Development Studies and a minor in Social Studies of Medicine. In 2013, she was awarded the Carol and Lloyd Darlington Arts Internship Award for her social work internship in Bududa, Uganda working for the Bududa Learning Center. This summer, Mina will be interning in the Event and Operations unit at the Clinton Global Initiative at the Clinton Foundation in New York City. Originally from the United States, she enjoys traveling and is passionate about learning languages; she is currently pursuing fluency in her fourth language.

Gabrielle Jacobs, U3, Political Science and Sociology: Gabrielle will intern at the Arab-Jewish Center for Equality, Empowerment and Cooperation (AJEEC) in Israel. Her experience as program coordinator at McGill’s Social Equity and Diversity Education (SEDE) Office will come in handy: she will help train Bedouin and Jewish youth in preparation for an intercultural gap-year project. She will also learn about the other social, economic, and health, programs run by AJEEC. Studying Political Science and Sociology, Gabrielle is looking forward to learning more about inter-ethnic cooperation in an unfamiliar environment.

Mollie Lawrence, U2, Social Work: Mollie is completing a bachelors in Social Work, and will be interning at Neve Michael Children’s Village in Israel. She has worked with underprivileged children in numerous settings in Montreal. This internship will broaden her clinical expertise as she works with disadvantaged youth, providing her with an international approach to child welfare. Mollie’s experience will provide her with an increased understanding of child welfare practices that will serve to enhance her future social work career.

Alaina Boyle, U2, International Development Studies: Alaina will intern with the Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) in Kampala, Uganda as a gender and ICT policy advocate. Alaina is currently a second-year student in the agriculture and environment stream of international development with a minor concentration in economics and is very interested in women’s' rights. She is looking forward to working with Ugandan women to expand their access to and use of information and communication technologies to make civil rights and new agricultural techniques accessible.

Enrica Ferrarotti, U3, Political Science: Enrica will be an intern with Sapa O’Chau, a social enterprise in Vietnam that aims to reintegrate Vietnamese minority groups. Enrica possess a strong interest in initiatives geared towards grass-root level communities. She is the Vice President of Strategy for Enactus McGill and is an outreach housing rights member and advisor in training for Project Genesis. Her experience in Vietnam will be an invaluable opportunity for her to better understand sustainable frameworks at the grass-root level.

Magaret Gagné, U2, Political Science: Maggie Gagné will be interning at the Children of Bududa program in Uganda this summer. This program uses education as a tool to empower children who otherwise could not afford schooling. She is currently in her fourth semester at McGill, majoring in Political Science and minoring in International Development Studies. With this opportunity, she hopes to gain practical experience working with an NGO and hopes to learn about NGO sustainability in rural areas.

Yuvraj Goswami, U2, Industrial Relations and Political Science: Yuvraj is a second year international student, majoring in Industrial Relations and Political Science. Through his internship with the Ministry of Labour of the Government of India, he will be working under the office of the Director General of Employment and Training, overlooking the operations of a new Government of India Labour reforms initiative called the National Career Service Project. His interests in Indian politics and leaning towards debate and public engagement makes this internship a great fit between his academic interests and professional aspirations.

Jonathan Lopez, U1, International Development Studies and Political Science: Jonathan will be interning at the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Ecuador where the largest refugee population in Latin America is hosted. Jonathan has been involved in Model United Nations both as a delegate and staff member as he is passionate about international relations and diplomacy. He looks forward to contributing his experience in administration and public relations to the agency as well as using this opportunity for his personal and professional development.

Adrienne Suen, U2, Political Science: Adrienne is a Political Science and World Religions student and will be interning at International Justice Mission, a human rights NGO this summer. IJM is committed to abolishing modern day slavery through its efforts to rescue victims of human trafficking and working with governments and law enforcement authorities to strengthen the justice system. As a committed human rights activist with academic interests in the interplay between religion, politics and human rights, Adrienne is eager to be part of an organization that harmonizes the three in its vision to combat human trafficking.

Mashal Hussain, U2, International Development Studies: This summer, Mashal will be interning at an organization called the Social Justice Connection, in Montreal, that serves to raise awareness and promote advocacy regarding human rights, poverty and equality. As she is pursuing an undergraduate degree in International Development and minoring in International Relations and French, Mashal is keen to involve herself in the development and advocacy process of human rights in Canada, which she believes, will foster further social development for Montreal and Canada.

Tasha Kara, U1, International Development Studies and Women’s Studies: Tasha will be working as the Gender and ICT Policy intern in Kampala, Uganda with the Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET), an NGO that promotes the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) among women as tools to share information and address issues of sustainable development collectively. Tasha hopes to gain valuable and practical experience in the field, while simultaneously conducting research that is fundamental to her degree.

Julie Vanderperre, U3, Political Science: Julie will be interning at the Association for India’s Development where she will be working on the Magasool Project, which seeks to promote sustainable and viable agricultural opportunities for rural farmers. Julie became interested in sustainable agriculture after her internship with the Social Justice Connection in the summer of 2014. Julie hopes to apply her previous internship experience to her work with Magasool. Her goal is to create a report that will impact policymaking and promote durable solutions for the farmers working with Magasool.

Anne Cernek, U3, English Literature: Ann Cernek is an English Literature Major minoring in Études et Practiques Litteraires Françaises, who also serves as the President of McGill Students for Education Beyond Borders. This summer, she will be interning with Debra Kerr, Executive Director of Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art in Chicago. This opportunity will allow her to explore museum and non-profit management while being fully immersed in the world of the unique self-taught and visionary arts.

Erin Sobat, U2, History: Erin studies History, Art History and East Asian Studies at McGill, and is incredibly excited to be interning at the Musée des beaux-arts de Montreal this summer. He will have the opportunity to work directly with the museum’s Japanese art collection on a project investigating the history of art collecting in Montreal. Erin currently serves as Vice-President Academic of the Arts Undergraduate Society and Library Improvement Fund Coordinator for the Students’ Society of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ.

Mayumi Louguet, U3, Economics: Mayumi will be interning at Elimu Impact Evaluation Centre, a research NGO based in the village of Kianyaga, Kenya. She will be involved in assessing through randomized experiments the effects of improved access to the judiciary on the farming community in Kianyaga. Her involvement with Elimu will be a valuable experience for her career aspirations, as she hopes to work towards improving sustainable pro-poor and inclusive growth policies in the context of developing countries.

Gabrielle Kacha, U1, International Development Studies: Gabrielle will be interning in Accra, Ghana with the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the national institution for the protection and promotion of fundamental rights and freedoms and administrative justice in Ghana. CHRAJ works to create a free and just society where human dignity is protected, power is accountable and governance is transparent. The internship with the Commission will deepen her devotion and passion for human rights advocacy and expand her knowledge on human rights violation. This, she believes, will help her in her future goals of studying humanitarian law.

Sabine Grutter, U3, International Development Studies & Global Health: Sabine will intern with the Kibale Health and Conservation Project in Kibale, Uganda and assist towards the goal of enhancing sustainability and health care in the region. Sabine has specified knowledge and experience in understanding the historical and political discourses that shape structural violence in the health sector and hopes to pursue a career in global public health with an emphasis on access restrictions for marginalised populations.

Audrey C. Rooney, U2, Environment and Development: Audrey will be interning with EDUCA, a non-profit organization based in Oaxaca, Mexico. EDUCA promotes civil education, training indigenous authorities and supports local development projects. Audrey is working towards a major in Environment and Development and a minor in Urban Systems. Understanding how environmental issues are tied with social issues is of great interest to her and she hopes to gain valuable insight on their intersection while involved with this organization.

Maria Lopez, U2, Economics: This summer, Maria will intern at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, a non-government body that provides a networking platform for its members with business interests in Canada, Hong Kong, Mainland China, and the Asia-Pacific region. She is excited for this internship because it will allow her to learn about current issues concerning business and trade in the Asia-Pacific region and give her an opportunity to apply her interdisciplinary skill-set in a practical field.

Nina Jaffe-Geffner, U1, Political Science: Nina will intern with FairVote, an organization located near Washington D.C. which promotes structural reform in the American electoral system. The internship will allow Nina to learn how advocacy is conducted at a national organization. Nina is pursuing a degree in Political Science. The information she learns about fair representation, fair elections and fair access while interning at FairVote will be highly valuable as she continues with her studies.

Magali Saul, U3, Political Science and Latin American & Caribbean Studies: Magali is in her third year at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ and will be graduating in December 2015 with a joint-honors degree in Political Science and Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Her academic interest include conflict resolution, and the promotion of international human rights. This summer, she will be interning with the McGill Oslo Scholars Program.

Isabel Engels, U1, Political Science and International Development: Isabel will be interning at Teto Brazil, an NGO that works to eradicate poverty through improving basic living conditions and community development in Latin America. Isabel is a first year student pursuing a double major in Political Science and International Development with a minor in Environment. Her interest in equality and development, which is practiced in Teto, will help her to use the information she has learnt in class and apply it in analyzing real life situations.

Kariane St-Denis, U2, International Development Studies and Molecular Biology: Kariane will be interning at the Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) this summer in Kampala, Uganda. She will be working alongside the organization to promote and encourage the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) by women and women organizations in Uganda as a means of empowerment and sustainable development. As an advocate of feminism and an adventurous and driven student, Kariane looks forward to the opportunity to apply her knowledge of international development in a practical setting.

Priya Nair, U2, History and Middle East Studies: Priya will be interning in Chennai, India, with a non-governmental organization named Magasool. Magasool works on projects regarding agriculture and rural development, trying to provide sustainable agricultural opportunities to rural farmers and services to improve agricultural yields. Priya will be involved in conducting surveys and research in individual villages in Tamil Nadu. Priya is a U2 student majoring in History and Middle East Studies.

Chloé Debyser, U3, Sustainability, Science and Society: Chloé will be interning this summer with the Indigenous Peoples of Africa Co-ordinating Committee (IPACC) in Cape Town, South Africa. IPACC is an advocacy network seeking to promote indigenous human rights and environmental governance leadership at agencies of the UN and other multilateral forums. Chloé is passionate about indigenous perspectives of the environment. She perceives this internship as an exceptional opportunity to gain a practical understanding of the political interplay between indigenous voices and international stakeholders on international environmental platforms.
