As a second-year student from Mumbai, India, majoring in Psychology and minoring in English Cultural Studies, I embarked on an enriching internship journey with the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal (SAFFM). This opportunity has not only enhanced my academic knowledge but provided me with practical insights into the world of film and marketing.

SAFFM, renowned for showcasing films from across the South Asian region, featured a remarkable collection of 52 films this year. The festival's diverse lineup covered a wide array of genres and narratives, celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of South Asia. From thought-provoking documentaries to vibrant narratives, the festival provided a platform for filmmakers to showcase their unique stories to a global audience.

During my tenure, my primary responsibilities revolved around communications and publicity. I was actively involved in strategizing communication plans to enhance the festival's visibility and boost ticket sales. One of my key tasks was editing content for SAFFM's social media platforms, particularly Instagram, where I crafted engaging posts that resonated with our audience. Additionally, I contributed to updating the festival's website, ensuring that all information was current and appealing to visitors.

Engaging with local businesses was another crucial aspect of my role. I reached out to potential collaborators to explore opportunities for partnerships, aiming to amplify the festival's reach within the community. This involved negotiating sponsorship deals, organizing promotional events, and leveraging local networks to generate buzz around the festival. Through these interactions, I honed my networking and communication skills, gaining confidence in pitching ideas and building professional

relationships.

Furthermore, I had the opportunity to work closely with the Kabir Centre for Arts, which provided invaluable support and resources. Their guidance was instrumental in enhancing my understanding of the film and marketing industry.

Throughout the internship, I developed and refined various marketing skills, including digital marketing strategies, content creation, and audience engagement techniques. I learned to analyze audience feedback and adapt our strategies to better meet their preferences, enhancing the overall festival experience. These experiences have equipped me with practical skills that I am eager to apply in my future endeavors.

In conclusion, my internship with SAFFM has been a transformative experience. It has allowed me to merge my academic background with real-world applications, deepening my understanding of the film industry and marketing. I am grateful for the opportunity to have contributed to SAFFM's success and for the support provided by the Kabir Centre for Arts and the Dean of Arts Development Fund. As I move forward, I am confident that the skills and experiences gained during this internship will be invaluable in my academic and professional journey. Thank you to Dean Lisa Shapiro for the Dean of Arts Development Fund Award.
