Internship Spotlight: Ella Bambina Uwurukundo - Éduconnexion

As a second-year student majoring in Psychology and minoring in Behavioral Sciences and Sociology at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, I embarked on an internship journey to delve deeper into the fabric of my society and discover ways to contribute meaningfully. This report encapsulates my enriching experience during the internship, highlighting my learning objectives, detailing my host organization, outlining my internship duties, discussing the pivotal moments and challenges, showcasing the impact on my academic experience, and expressing gratitude to the Faculty of Arts Action Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism Fund for their support.

My aspiration to explore the intricate interplay of societal dynamics and positively impact my community fueled my decision to undertake this internship. This experience broadened my understanding of social and environmental issues while honing practical research, communication, and global citizenship education skills. My ultimate goal was to gain insights into practical strategies for fostering positive societal change.

Éduconnexion, previously known as Social Justice Connection, is an independent, non-political charitable organization founded in 1976. With a steadfast dedication to citizen participation, the organization empowers individuals and entities aspiring to cultivate a more just, ecologically conscious, and united world. Through innovative projects and comprehensive training, Éduconnexion equips its participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to amplify their capacity for meaningful action.

Throughout my internship, I was actively engaged in diverse responsibilities that aligned perfectly with my learning objectives. My duties included:

  1. Attending regular work meetings and workshops at Éduconnexion.
  2. Delving into research on pressing social and environmental issues.
  3. Developing novel pedagogic tools for global citizenship education.
  4. Crafting a communication strategy for social network platforms.
  5. These tasks provided me with hands-on experience in project management, research, and content creation.

Among the many enriching experiences, the workshops were the highlight of my internship journey. Participating in these interactive sessions allowed me to witness firsthand the transformation that education and awareness can trigger within individuals. Witnessing participants engage passionately and initiate discussions about change and action was genuinely inspiring. These moments solidified my belief in the power of education as a catalyst for change.

While the journey was rewarding, I encountered challenges that tested my adaptability and problem-solving skills. Balancing my academic commitments with internship duties demanded efficient time management. However, by prioritizing tasks, establishing a well-structured routine, and seeking guidance from my mentors at Éduconnexion, I successfully overcame these challenges and emerged stronger.

Although my internship did not yield academic credits, the knowledge and skills I acquired during this period significantly complemented my academic pursuits. The practical exposure I gained in research, communication, and project management provided a valuable dimension to the theoretical concepts I studied at McGill. This synergy between theory and practice has enhanced my academic performance and broadened my perspective on the subject matter.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Faculty of Arts Action Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism Fund for their invaluable support during my internship at Éduconnexion. This support enabled me to fully engage in the internship and immerse myself in the learning experience without undue financial strain. Their commitment to fostering inclusivity and equal opportunities deserves commendation.

In conclusion, my internship experience at Éduconnexion has been a transformative journey, reaffirming my belief in the potential of citizen participation to drive positive societal change. Through workshops, research, and project management, I have gained valuable insights and skills that have enriched my academic and personal growth. I am excited to continue on my path of learning, engagement, and contribution to building a more just and united world.
