McGill student team wins second prize at Ice Hotel
A McGill student team won second prize in the Architecture Éphémère competition at the outside Quebec City in Valcartier at the opening celebration on Friday, January 19. The team of U1 students Shengkun Tommy Yang, Hongwon Antony Suh, and Marina Dentico won second prize for their room Voler la vedette. Over 20 teams from the universities of Laval, McGill, Montréal, and UQAM submitted design panels to the competition, of which four were chosen to be built as theme rooms. (The other three winners were all from Laval.) Exceptionally, the McGill scheme, due to its ambitious and challenging nature, was given an extra-large room to accommodate the execution of the modified design. At the award ceremony, the jury chief, Philippe Lupien, playfully warned the McGill team’s teacher and advisor, Prof. David Covo, not to expect such a luxury again.
